Why LA couples book

Marriage counseling in Los Angeles, without the waiting room

  • Two careers on different clocks

One of you has a 6 a.m. call time in Burbank and the other is closing deals downtown until eight. When your schedules barely overlap, the real arguments happen over text. A standing session gives you one protected hour in the same room, planned around both calendars.

  • The rent, the mortgage, the math

Housing shapes nearly every big decision an LA couple makes: rent or buy, stay in the city or leave it, take in a parent or not. Those conversations go sideways fast. A third person in the room can slow them down so each of you is actually heard.

  • Family under the same roof

Plenty of Angelenos share a home with parents, adult children or in-laws. Loyalty to family and loyalty to each other can pull in opposite directions, and in a full house there is rarely a private place to talk about it. A booked hour behind a closed door makes one.

  • Freelance income, shared stress

Actors, writers, crew and contractors know that pay can stop between projects. When one partner is booked solid and the other is waiting on a callback, money and resentment start to tangle. Talking it through together can separate the two before they harden.

How it works

Two people, one room, fifty minutes

  1. 01

Book the couples session in Jane

Pick “Me and my partner” when you book online, choose an open time, and a card holds it. There is no screening call and no waitlist to sit on.

  2. 02

    Set up one private room

Both of you need to be in California, side by side, somewhere neither of you worries about being overheard. A bedroom with the door shut works. Two laptops in two different places does not.

  3. 03

    Fifty minutes, $450, either language

Each session runs 50 minutes for $450, paid by card, with nothing billed to insurance. Speak English, Spanish or both; Martha follows whoever is talking and switches when you do.

  4. 04

    What the first hour covers

Martha hears how each of you sees the problem, looks for the pattern the two of you keep falling into, and asks what you both want to be different. You leave with a clearer picture of the work, not a verdict on who is right.

English and Spanish

Two languages, one marriage

In Los Angeles it is ordinary for one partner to have grown up speaking Spanish at home and the other in English, or for both to switch halfway through a sentence. The sharpest feelings tend to come out in the first language, and translating them on the spot for a therapist can flatten them.

Martha is fully clinical in both languages, so each of you can speak the way you think. That matters when a fight that looks like it is about dishes is really about a mother in Michoacán, or a family in East LA that expected a different kind of wedding.

Couples FAQ, Los Angeles

Before you book as a couple

Is marriage counseling in Los Angeles different from couples therapy?

Mostly in name. People use marriage counseling, couples counseling and couples therapy interchangeably. The session is the same either way: both partners, 50 minutes, by secure video with Martha, whether you are married, engaged or neither.

Can one of us join from a set or a hotel while the other stays home?

No. Couples sessions happen with both of you together in one private room in California. If one partner is on location out of state, book a week when you are both home.

What does a Los Angeles couples therapist cost without insurance?

With Martha, a 50-minute couples session is $450, paid directly. She does not bill insurance or hand out superbills, so no diagnosis code goes to a payer and nothing shows up on a studio, guild or employer plan.

Can couples counseling in Los Angeles help us decide whether to stay together?

It can be the place to have that conversation honestly. Some couples come to repair things and some come to decide. Martha does not pick the outcome for you; she helps both of you say what you want and what you fear. If only one of you is ready, individual sessions are $400 on her Los Angeles page.

One of us is recognizable in the industry. How private is this?

There is no lobby, no front desk and no other clients to pass on the way in. You join from your own room, and nothing is billed to a plan. California law protects what you say in session, apart from a few narrow exceptions that Martha walks through at the start.
